As you may have figured out, I like to focus on the positive when it comes to the environment and conservation. That doesn’t mean any of the problems go away, but I don’t think it’s particularly helpful to load people up with bad environmental news and leave them hanging, with no clue about what they can do. So when I came across the graph below, I knew it would be a case of ‘a-picture-is-worth-a-thousand-words’. If you are looking for a way to decrease the carbon dioxide emissions you are responsible for (increased carbon dioxide being a major factor in our changing climate), one glance sums it up. And the irony is not lost on me. Sugar has a low impact…but you still can’t sugar-coat the impact of beef.

Time for a Trek?

New ecolodges and eco-tours are still being added to Ecotripmatch.com. Seven trekking tours by Glorious Himalaya Trekking company have just been added. They look beautiful! If you have ever dreamed of hiking in the magnificent, legendary, Himalayan Mountains of Nepal, with views of Everest or Annapurna, one of these treks might be for you. You might especially want to take a look at the Everest Base Camp trek, which includes all of the gloriousness of being near Mt. Everest, and none of the dangers of actually climbing it. It’s about the journey, not the destination, after all.

If you ever find yourself in Albuquerque, New Mexico, or already live here, I would be thrilled to lead you on my two hour, nature immersion tour in the foothills of the Sandia Mountains. And for something longer, I am always forming groups for my next week-long jaunt into the forests of Panama.
